Key Takeaways from the IDSC & Control Union Eco-Action in Tourism Webinar Today🟢

Today, October 20, 2025, the Indonesian DMC Sustainability Collaboration (IDSC) partnered with Control Union Indonesia to host a powerful webinar: “Eco-Action in Tourism: Minimizing Environmental Footprint in Daily Operations.”

With more than 45 participants from IDSC’s hoteliers and DMC members in attendance, the message was clear: sustainable tourism is no longer optional it’s a core operational mandate. The session was a crucial reminder that our industry must move from commitment to tangible, daily action.

The Sustainability Mandate: Investment Over Cost
Muhamad Rifki from Control Union Indonesia kicked off the discussion by setting a vital context: the pursuit of sustainability certification.

He stressed that embarking on this long journey is an investment, not a cost.
Certification provides the necessary structure to seriously protect and sustain local communities and the environment from negative tourism impacts.
The long-term value in reputation, efficiency, and market appeal far outweighs the initial effort.

Practical Action & The Overlooked Risk
Ferly Apriliadita provided actionable steps, focusing on daily operational discipline in critical areas, including effective Waste Management to significantly reduce pollution and the overall ecological footprint.

She detailed the crucial, three-step journey to long-term success:
System: A clear system must be established first to guide the entire journey.
People: Human commitment is the second key, ensuring that personnel align their goals with the established system. Then, the habit: Once aligned, these practices become entrenched as habits for everyone in the management and office community. Ferly also highlighted the importance of chemical safety, urging DMCs and hoteliers not to overlook training and control in this vital area for safety.

Closing Thought, the enthusiasm from the 45 hoteliers and DMCs in attendance signals a genuine shift in the Indonesian tourism sector. The collaboration between IDSC and Control Union has underscored a vital message: real progress in sustainability happens when industry leaders commit to both long-term goals (certification) and immediate, granular action (waste and safety control).
