Meet Ibu Jumiati: The Eco-Enzyme Hero of COMO Uma Canggu
A Sustainability Highlight from the IDSC Inspection
During the recent sustainability inspection by the IDSC at COMO Uma Canggu, the team uncovered an inspiring story of grassroots leadership and strong management support behind the resort’s eco-enzyme initiative. At the center of this success is Ibu Jumiati, a passionate team member who has become the driving force behind the eco-enzyme project, supported wholeheartedly by Lelie Liana, the resort’s Sustainability Manager.
Ibu Jumiati: Leading by Example
Known among her colleagues as the “Eco-Enzyme Hero”, Ibu Jumiati initiated the idea of turning organic kitchen waste into eco-enzyme, a natural, non-toxic cleaning solution created through the fermentation of fruit and vegetable scraps with sugar and water. Her dedication has led COMO Uma Canggu to actively produce and use eco-enzyme in daily operations, reducing reliance on chemical cleaners and significantly lowering the volume of organic waste.
Her initiative has now become part of the resort’s sustainable waste management system, used for cleaning in staff areas, service spaces, and public restrooms.

Management Support: Lelie Liana’s Key Role
This initiative has thrived thanks to the continuous support and encouragement from Lelie Liana, COMO group Sustainability Manager. Lelie provided the platform, resources, and empowerment for Ibu Jumiati to develop the eco-enzyme program, ensuring that the sustainability practices are not only ideas but also fully integrated into the resort’s daily operations.
Lelie’s leadership demonstrates the critical role of management in nurturing bottom-up sustainability actions, proving that impactful change happens when people at all levels work together with shared purpose.
A Ripple Effect
What began as a small initiative is now inspiring other staff to be more mindful of their waste and seek out eco-friendly alternatives in their work and personal lives. The collaboration between Ibu Jumiati and Lelie Liana is a powerful example of how grassroots action and management support can combine to create real, lasting impact.
IDSC’s Recognition
The IDSC inspection team highly commended COMO Uma Canggu for this meaningful sustainability practice. Special appreciation was given to Ibu Jumiati for her innovation and passion, and to Lelie Liana for her strong leadership and support in making this initiative a success.
Stories like theirs are essential in showing the tourism industry that sustainability doesn’t always require large investments, sometimes, it simply takes people who care, empowered by leaders who believe in them.
